Warcraft 3: WCG 2006 WC3 Preview

By: Jaczie Lo - Published October 17, 2006 at 3:05 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Group D

mouz.Giacomo
sh^grumpy
SK.Deadman
bulletproof MyAngel

A quick look on this list of names would immediately tell you the obvious results. Deadman takes the top spot, no question about it. This is a pretty easy group, so WCG veteran Giacomo should also have no problems getting the other slot.

Group E

4K.Zeus[19]
WE.Sky
Shiru
Silver_Grunt
WE.Rob

Say hello to the group of death! WE.IGE.Sky would probably walk away with the top spot easy, as last year's grand champ. Sky's European teammate, Rob, is another strong contender with his recent online successes. Watching him play out on LAN might show a whole different level. Zeus is the other spot challenger, who has more experience than any of these other players, so he's another player to watch out for.

Group F

Saint2K
mTw-Davin
NiGh-Clad
ONE-GoStop
WE.DieSel

This group has one clear favorite, leaving four players battling it out for the second spot. GoStop is the most experienced player in this group, followed closely by mTw-DaviN and WE.DieSeL. The celebrated Undead player would probably take first place, with a tossup between DaviN and DieSeL, but it looks to favor the latter due to the racial matchup. The darkhorse of this group is Saint2K--despite not being as famous as his peers, the possibility of him advancing is not completely farfetched.

Group G

Inf.ArAcNo
4K.Creolophus
Ghost
eMg.GLaDe

The two Night Elves would take the top two spots without a doubt but who takes first? eMg.GLaDe is the underdog of this matchup, who seems to be performing pretty well on online matches. 4K.Creolophus has tons of LAN experience as compared to the former, finishing top 8 on last year's WCG as well as qualifying for a lot of recent tournaments. 4K.Creolophus should take top spot with GLaDe on second.

Group H

4K.Grubby
xLo.SoliD
TcT.DaVe
hoorai.PaTo

4K.Grubby is going to crush this group to take the top spot. xLo.SoLiD looks to be a solid contender, but PaTo's Night Elf mirror is quite strong, so he should be able to take SoLiD down to take the 2nd spot.

Group I

Inf.Geno
SGC.Doran
WE.SoJu
SK.XlorD
SK.HoT

This is another group to watch out for, with three players worthy of note. WE.IGE.SoJu came out on top for the WCG Korean qualifiers, making him a top contender at this event. SK.HoT is another strong Night Elf player with notable achievements of his own. It's hard to determine which of these two players will get the top spot, since both seem to be equally capable to do so. SK.XlorD is the darkhorse of this group, which might end up taking a spot if the two Night Elves don't bring on their A game.

Group J

mouz.BasH
4K.ToD
B)Despot(M
atr.Kowi
tripo

There's no question that 4K.ToD should walk away with the #1 spot on this group. He took 3rd and 4th in the past WCGs and is still in top shape. He's one of the favorites to win, following his stellar perfomances this 2006, such as taking the first prize at the recent WEG Masters. mouz.BasH is fairly active in the Warcraft III scene as well, so he should be able to take 2nd place against the other players.
