Warcraft 3: WCG 2006 WC3 Preview

By: Jaczie Lo - Published October 17, 2006 at 3:05 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Group K

PhoeNix_nicholas
u.s.T_Rabbit
Rene
xLo.venom
hoorai.Nilknarf

This group plays host to up-and-coming players instead of established ones. hoorai.Nilknarf is currently USA's most celebrated player, performing extremely well at online leagues and sailing through the WCG USA Qualifiers. This is his first big international LAN, so a lot of people would be looking forward to his perfomance at this event. He should be able to take the #1 spot on this group. u.s.T_Rabbit still hasn't shown any incredible games as of late, but since competition is tight in China, he should be able to show a lot of potential.

Group L

MYM]Ciara
four.SeiN
water-melon
srs`FiX
ecL)iNey.Sujin

This will be an easy group for Ciara to win, especially since his two toughest competitors play Undead, which is known to be at a disadvantage against Orc. A lot of people feel that Ciara's skill is very much underestimated, despite his good results at online tournaments. This should be a good event for him to prove that he has what it takes to compete at a high level. The second spot should go to srs`FiX without a hitch.

Group M

Spwc3.Vankor
Cube`Cale
Prae.ToRReN
iD.Firestrike
PRoMaX

Not a top group, but difficult none the less with three relatively good players. Vankor, Firestrike and ToRReN all compete regularly, so all of them have decent playing experience. This is a bit difficult to predict, but judging on past performances and gut feel--Firestrike would probably take the top spot, followed by a 50/50 chance between Vankor and ToRReN.

Group N

True.Sasag
Colorful.syc
TRUE
Legolas
fnatic.XyLigaN

The top contenders for this group are the two Human players, Colorful.Syc and XyLigaN. XyLigaN is one of Europe's top Human players, however it seems that he is very inconsistent as of late. Despite this, the other players in this group cannot compare to his experience, so he should be able to take a spot. There's no surprise that the other spot goes to the Chinese player. Colorful.Syc might not be competing internationally, but there's more than enough tournaments in China itself to improve his game.

Group O

Day-Night_Abuse[EFC]
NetGen.Kaby
Prae.TeRRoR
Blackmoon

This small group plays host to two strong players, Day-Night_Abuse and Prae.TeRRoR. Both of them are very active on online tournaments, most probably to get themselves ready for this spectacular event. Day-Night_Abuse has the upper hand against TeRRoR due to the racial matchup, as Day-Night_Abuse plays Orc and TeRRoR plays Undead. Even if TeRRoR loses to his Orc nemesis, he shouldn't have any problems going against the other players in his group.

Group P

Halva
Prae.Yarchik
fnatic.Elakeduck
Prae.Paladyn

Two teammates face each other on this group, but the top spot would probably go to the controversial fnatic.Elakeduck. He was rumoured to be "retired" from the game, and was removed from the SK roster after being on the team for years. He suddenly made his return winning the WCG Swedish Qualifiers, beating players who are considered better and more active than he currently was. After his win, he was picked up by fnatic to mark his return from inactivity. The second spot should go to Prae.Paladyn, as he has shown good results in a lot of European leagues.
