Primary Races: Orc and Night Elf WC3L Season X Player Ranks: 39th, 53rd Season VIII was one MYM would rather forget. Despite sporting a twice-to-beat advantage, and playing a depleted three-man 4K team that was forced to play from behind 0-1 in every CW, MYM choked away to chances at the title in route to a demoralizing second-place finish. In an attempt to revamp their team, MYM parted with Farseer and GoStop, replacing them with Storm, BerA and EVE. The signing of Storm proved to be a virtuoso move, and with the trio Moon, Susiria and Lucifer; BerA and EVE rarely got to see much “mouse burn” during MYM’s Season IX title run. But with Moon and Storm struggling in Season X, leaving MYM with replays of the Luci and Susi Show, the situation was ripe for BerA and EVE to finally prove their mettle. In fact, EVE replaced Moon immediately following his loss to Bifrost in playday 8, promptly winning his first match 2:1, only to lose his next two to Germans, LasH and Fisch. Overall, EVE went a sour 2-3 in five matches. BerA was even worse, losing both times he was fielded, to ToD and PaTo.
Meet Your Makers 2v2 At one time, this would have been as simple as sending five peasants to a goldmine. MYM practically had GoStop and Susiria’s names etched in stone as their 2v2 team and chalked up a near free win every time. This year, MYM has struggled to find a stable 2v2 team, much like SK-Gaming did before finding kindred spirits in Deadman and HoT. Simple WC3 mathematics might dictate that pairing the best Night Elf player in the world with arguably the best Undead player in the world would make for an unbeatable team. Not so. Moon and Lucifer went a middling 2 and 2. Trying to recapture the dark magic of their GoStop/Susiria team from years back, MYM decided on a pairing of Susi and Luci. The results? No better at 3 and 3. Lucifer and Moon's tandem worked wonders last season, but it was at a time when Moon was considered untouchable. Paired up with one of the world's best Undeads straight out of Korea--and you got a 2v2 team that managed to take every other hopeful team out. But as we all already know, this season highlighted the worst of the Night Elf prodigy, and this might have been the very reason why MYM's 2v2 team struggled throughout. Fortunately for MYM, they've already managed to beat two 2v2 teams they are facing in the playoffs: the Grubby/Zeus[19] tandem for 4K, and Spell, HasuObs for mouz. Four Kings would most probably keep this 2v2 team, unless they decide to switch Zeus[19] for Creolophus, or the return of his former partner ToD. For mouz however, Spell and HasuObs aren't the most active players at the moment, especially since Spell recently announced his retirement.
MYM has everything to lose this season, being the former champion doubles the pressure pitted on their team to prove that they are worthy of their title. While last year's performance can be called nothing short of incredible--their meager standings this season is something other people would scoff at, especially if it came from a team with their stature. Moon's non-performance just shows how much of a pivotal player he really is--when you're hobbling on one leg short, you're bound to fall sooner or later. Luckily, MYM can depend on its two Undead pillars with Lucifer and Susiria, who managed to win enough points to get them through the playoffs, and eventually winning against SK Gaming to get a slot for the offline finals. While criticisms and doubts plague the reigning champions, you have to give where credit is due. Their season might be filled with more reds than greens, but MYM knows that they've got bigger fish to fry. They barely made it out of the season with their slew of unexpected losses, but their eye is on the prize. With Lucifer and Susiria at the top of their game, and Moon returning to his old status: MYM just might be able to pull off another championship. And who is there to stop them? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
