After losing three key teammembers the Korean-Chinese team, known as World Elite, beat on their opponents and made it to the finals curtousey of the two time WCG Champion Xiaofeng "Sky" Li and the 2v2 dream team of Sung Sik "ReMinD" Kim and Seong Deok "SoJu" Lee.
Merely two year’s in existence, WE has established itself as one of the premiere stables for WC3 talent in the world. Their roster read like a who’s-who of the best Chinese and Korean stars. But if you had somehow prophesied that this team would make it to the WC3L off line finals-- much less be one of the favorites to win the title-- without mainstays Sweet, FoCuS or Check, people would think you’d spent too many after hours at the Tavern. Alas, that’s just what happened. Sweet departed for the upstart BeT clan; FoCuS chose to rejoin his GO clan mates (now NoA); and Check would later drop a bombshell just as the regular season came to a close when he announced he was joining FoV to lead a rival Chinese-Korean super-clan to WE, wNv. Those kind of losses would be enough to send any clan into a tailspin. All WE did was finish the year ranked second in WC3L play with 9 wins in 11 CWs. They did it by replacing FoCuS with another Korean Orc, Lyn, from clan Lof (the same clan that produced Storm and Homerunball), and who was arguably in better shape at the time he was signed by WE than FoCuS was. Sweet’s replacement came from within in the person of TeD, who cut his teeth on WE’s Team B. With Check’s defection coming so late in the season, WE has yet to find a replacement, if they plan to all. Unlike 4K, which was crippled by the loss of FoV, WE is in good stead to withstand the loss of Check. Already loaded with NEs in suhO, ReMinD and Soju, an NE was the one race WE could afford to take a hit. Despite all the changes, WE finds itself in the familiar position of being the favorite against a young and hungry mouz team. The reason? It’s not who left but who stayed that has WE beating its chest—Li Xiaofeng, aka WE.Sky, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, regarded by many as the best WC3 player in the world. Sky leads his WE team into battle after a year which saw him become the first and only WC3 player to successfully defend his WCG title. Sky is not the only WE player to be in top form. ReMinD is coming off a finals win over Sky himself at the recently conclude Xi’an CEG tourney that boasted some of the biggest names in WC3 including Lucifer, ToD, SaSe and xiaOt; while Soju is a year removed from winning the brutally Darwinian Korean WCG Qualifying Tournament, regarded as the world’s toughest national e-sport qualifier for WC3. With its mix of veterans and newcomers, old and new, Chinese and Korean, WE is primed for a deep playoff run. And with the best HU leading the charge, Sky’s the limit.Editors Note: Sky and TeD are unable to attend the event
