Warcraft 3: SoJu after winning ESWC

By: Jaclyn Lo - Published July 08, 2007 at 9:10 AM EDT - Writer Archive
GotFrag's resident Warcraft III know-it-all had the opportunity to interview the ESWC 2007 Champion, Seong Deok "SoJu" Lee.

How does it feel winning ESWC?

I’m very, very happy that I was able to win the ESWC. I lost three times in the earlier rounds so I wasn’t a hundred percent sure that I could win the whole tournament. Although when I found out that Creolophus was my opponent for the finals, I felt very confident that I was going to win. I know how Creolophus plays, and I’ve come up with a strategy that can counter Creolophus’ build.

Against Creo I knew that I was going to win. Even after winning ESWC, I don’t feel like I’m on the very top yet. There’s still a long way for me to go. I want to keep playing and practicing to improve myself.

Which matchups did you practice for?

I only practiced against Night Elf and Orc for this tournament, and not a lot against Undead and Human. There’s not a lot of Humans in the tournament, so that wasn’t a big problem. There was not a lot of Undead’s too and I wasn’t prepared for it; so when I met Lucifer in the brackets I thought, “this is it, I’m going to get knocked out of the tournament”. But thankfully I managed to beat him and go through the finals.

What do you think about playing against Creolophus in the finals?

Creolophus doesn’t have a wide variety of strategies. He has a limited amount of tactics so I knew that he was going to use certain builds and strategies. Because of this, I was able to come up with a counter for his game. Creo used the same strategy as I expected him to, so I was very confident that I could beat him.

What was the hardest matchup and map for you in the whole tournament?

Creolophus was the hardest opponent of the whole tournament. Personally, Twisted Meadows is the hardest map for me to play. In Korea, Priestess of the Moon is the most used strategy on this map. However, I don’t really like using Priestess of the Moon and prefer to use the Demon Hunter. So the map is really hard for me because of this.

Do you think not having any Humans in the tournament affected the outcome of the tournament?

It’s still like 50-50 because in WSVG, I made a lot of mistakes against Human and that’s how I lost. I don’t know if I gotten better or still play the same, not really sure so it’s 50-50.
