Warcraft 3: Meet Your Makes Meets Xbox

Regroup Esports, parent company of competitive gaming team MEET YOUR MAKERS, today announced its entry into the U.S console gaming market through the recent acquisition of Xbox Users Group.

XUG has more than 45,000 registered users, making it the second biggest Xbox 360 online community.

In a statement on the XUG site, Regroup CEO Mark Peter Fries said:

By purchasing XUG we hope to gradually bring together two separate gaming worlds – being respectively the world of consoles and the world of e-sports. We believe that such a mix will become useful and exciting to both gamer segments. In addition to this, the purchase is very attractive for us since 60% of all users of the XUG are from the States – an area we’re very interested in getting to know better.

The developments and statements certainly indicate that Regroup plans on muscling in on competitive gaming in the U.S. by acquiring an established community. Now may just be the right time; the Championship Gaming Series is making some headway into mainstream territory, and the online league scene in the U.S. seems ripe for the picking.

XUG is a six year old site that began as an MSN community. It then moved into independent territory on the web, and has since remained separate from Microsoft's own Xbox LIVE sites.
