A closer look at the upper bracket semi-finals between 4K.ToD and SK.ReMinD ![]()
Game 1 - Turtle Rock. The players spawned across the map from each other with ToD at the 9 and ReMinD on the 5 o'clock.. ToD opened up with what would become his standard throughout the series--Archmage, footmen, and a fast expansion. ReMinD begins with a Dark Ranger, archers and a quick tech. After a little bit of creeping, ReMinD scouts out ToD's expansion (at the spawning point adjacent to ToD's base) and begins what would become the theme of the game for ReMinD, harassment. In his initial attempt, he loses too much health on his Dark Ranger, and is forced to use his Scroll of Town Portal too early. ToD gets his expansion up, and stays there to protect it while ReMinD comes in for round two. This time armed with a Naga Sea Witch and ReMinD is able to do significant damage, but is once again forced to back away as ToD's militia arrive to save him. At this point, ToD is able to pick up his second hero, also the Naga, while ReMinD has started production of Druids of the Talon. He goes back to ToD's expansion once more, and both players take about even casualties. This heavily benefits ToD though, as his economy is twice that of ReMinD's. For the third time ReMinD is forced to back away, and ToD's army continues to grow as he begins to produce spell breakers and priests. ReMinD tries once more to take out ToD's expo, but again is forced back. This time, ToD is able to surround the Naga while ReMinD is retreating, and upon it's death ReMinD has lost game one. Game 2 - Echo Isles. The only difference for the early game for both players is ReMinD training a Demon Hunter. ReMinD goes to harass ToD's fast expansion very early, but ToD manages to surround the hero, once again forcing an extremely early Scroll of Town Portal. ReMinD has the same quick tech as the game before, except this time at tier two he picks up a Panda as his second hero, while throwing down two Ancient of Lores. ToD is still stuck at tier one for a while, while his expansion rakes up gold. In the middle of the game, and the middle of the map, a crucial point happens where ToD picks up a Naga, and creepjacks ReMinD at the Marketplace. Although ToD doesn't do too much damage with his good timing, he makes a decision to target a low health Demon Hunter. At the last second, ReMinD shows his incredible micro by passing his staff to his Panda, and saving his Demon Hunter. This causes ToD to lose all of his footmen, and the game to shift over into ReMinD's favor. ReMinD is now tier three, with an army of bears and dryads. His Panda is quickly gaining levels and becoming dangerous, while his DH has obtained an orb of venom. ToD has begun constructing an army of primarily spell breakers, with the occasional priest and sorceress. The two trade unit deaths at ToD's expansion, but ReMinD is able to save a lot more through great use of his staff of preservation. Unlike the last game where unit trading benefited ToD, ReMinD was able to secure himself an expansion. With stronger heroes, and a larger army, ReMinD is able to secure game two. Game 3 - Terenas Stand. Both players begin with the same exact start as the game before. ReMinD picks up a troll priest from the mercenary camp, in order to help him dispel the water elementals, just before starting the harass on ToD's expansion. This time ReMinD is quite successful, taking down a tower and killing a couple of peasants. He's then able to come back with his freshly trained Naga, and because his shop was near the Tavern, make a great staff save on his dying Demon Hunter. ReMinD quickly recovers and heads back towards ToD's expansion once more. Severely under-armed, ToD calls militia from his main base to help him out. He is able to hold off for a while, but he eventually calls all of the militia from his base, leaving no peasants at all. At this point ReMinD kills the Archmage, and finishes off the game, and the series by picking off militia one by one until ToD is forced to quit. |
