Computer problems, an upset, and a struggling team. Here's what happened during the first day of Warcraft at WCG USA. ![]() The first couple of Warcraft games were plagued by the infamous disconnect. During game one between Nilknarf and HolyHuman - where Holy had a hero level advantage - Nilk's computer suddenly dropped from the game. Shortly after, the first game of iggy vs SonKiE also dropped. It turns out that the whole row of computers which indluded all of the other RTS games, such as Starcraft, were having the same problems. After about 45 minutes, annoyed players, and restless fans, the admins were able to fix the problems and the matches got underway. By the way, Nilk ended up shutting Holy out. The Dark Horse Advances. While the 2-0 seems pretty convincing, the games were extremely close, and Holy was greeted by fellow players with "nice try" following the loss to the Human King - Nilk. It was this series that set up the possibility for an upset. Holy went into the game against SonKiE following the opening ceremony, which means he had time to think about his loss to Nilk. On the other hand, SonKiE had to play both Night Elf opponents prior to the match. The first game was extremely close, going down to the wire with both players running out of gold. Their final fight ended up with Holy taking down both of SonKiE's heroes, leaving him extremely frustrated with himself. This frustration from SonKiE set up the second win for his opponent. He forfeited the game early following the quick falling of his Panda. However, did get bit lucky during the series, finding multiple experience tomes in both games giving his Mountain King a significant level advantage. You can't take away from his performance though, he played solid all day. H2O Flops. Newly signed players to the PMS/H2O organization struggle in the first group. TechnoBoy dropped every map to his three human opponents, but at least he managed to grab a 2-0 win over his teammate. Iggy on the other hand, decided to use the same strat for every game - a huntress tower rush led by a Dark Ranger. While the strategy doesn't show it, he at least tried in every game. Well, unless you count the one where he simply left due to SonKiE's excessive use of towers. While somebody has to finish in last place, it would have been nice to see him take at last one map from someone. Hopefully Roach, H2O's third member at the event, can perform better than his companions. |
