Although I like the idea of a good conversation starter... you really can't compare the two and decide which one is better. They are two COMPLETELY different games between an FPS and an MMORPG, and it really comes down to personal preference of who likes what better.
I personally have played both competitively, as I played CS for a good 4-5 years, and then switched over to WoW and have been playing for the last 3+ years. They both bring what a gamer wants in that type of game, and they both are the most dominate in their respected fields. I personally think that the competitive edge though goes to CS because it has the stronger history of competition and is much easier to compete on LAN with.
As far as just overall game play though and which one is more fun.... I enjoyed playing both of them, and I still do play some CS now and then.
in order for a game to be "better" than another it has to have comparable qualities to prove such a statement. you cannot say that one game is better than the other and be able to prove it through fact because both games are in different genres. one is an MMO, another is a first person shooter, there is no way you can say one is better than another, personal preference
since wow requires no skill or reaction time to be competitive in, I will say CS. I don't want to be beaten because someone rolls a DK, I want to be beaten because someone plays better than me. And until everyone enters arena with the same stats and abilities it won't be as good for competitive play. Besides, I play WoW a lot, and even I can't figure out whats going on in matches I am not playing in half the time. Its not spectator friendly like cs.
Honestly are you trying to compare a game that is class based vs a game that is skill based? The whole idea of "grinding" baffles me, how could that EVER be part of any competative game. When players are rewarded for more time spent vs god given talent...well....you get my point.
Eaven the idea of comparing these 2 games is way off.. These are 2 totally oposits and cant be compared what so ever. I played cs some years and now i mainly play wow, because i cant stand the new cs, not 1.6 but what the comunity in general have come to.
#13 ever seen akrio's movies? a faimous rogue you can't tell me that guy doesnt have reflexes i mean omg he does a lot of deathcoil/blind vanishes you can't tell me anyone can do that and with the blind i will say it's more of anticipation but with the pyro and deathcoil it is reflex especially for the pyro when you see/hear those bufs stacking on and hear that POM you gotta have a reflex towards vanish.
other wise i would say cs has been more a competitive game but wow is almos there
I'm not gonna compare the games cause that would be silly... But I think we can compare their e-sport potential.
WoW as an RPG requires skill, but also items. On the tournament you don't require items since they are standardized, however you will need items in order to advance in the ladder, become well known and get a sponsorship/ a serious team. On the good side, the game provides a nice 'interface' (it's game world) in which you can look for other players who might want to play with you.
CS on the other hand depends only on your fast reflexes, hand movement precision and quick planning ability (everyone has equal chances), however there is no effective way of starting a serious team and it takes a lot of time to progress from a starter team into a professional team even if you are awesome.
So they both have downsides... In my opinion RTS games are much more fair as e-sports, as again it only depends on your abilities, and not on having obtained this or that for your character, nor you depend on anyone else since games are usually 1vs1.
I've played CS for about 10 years now and WOW for about 5. You can't even really compare the 2, In CS you spend countless hours preparing for matches being Online leagues/LAN tournies, In WOW you spend countless hours spinning around in circles on org bank, raiding, and playing arena. HOWEVER here is my opinion, CS in my opinion is much more fun at a competitive level than wow, being at the highest level of competition you still have an equal opportunity to win any match assuming your skill, strategy, and reaction times are equal. In WOW certain classes just fair better against each other, there is still strategy involved, however until mods and macro's are removed the playing field will not be equal. As for e-sports potential, assuming you plan on e-sports becoming popular on television , the average person can sit down and watch a counterstrike match and roughly figure out was it going on and be entertained. But for WOW if I showed this game to the same person on tv they would probably respond with "Why are these guys chasing eachother in circles around a pillar for 20 minutes at a time." Arena is great to watch if you completely understand what is happening , as for a spectator whom is not submerged in the world of warcraft, potentially as much fun as staring at a blank wall. I don't know if people who claim WOW is a better game have ever been/competed in an event as big as CPL/WSG or an event of that nature, but that is SIMPLY AMAZING! But hey what do I know, I'm the main healer on 2500 rated 3v3, TOP 100 on RAID PROGRESSION, and played at a few CPL's, WCG's and a 100+ more cs LAN Tournies!
Im sure I'll get flamed for this, but HEY UNTIL YOU AIM YOUR SPELLS IN WOW IT DOES NOT TAKE AS MUCH SKILL.
you actually can. WoW takes away lives while CS at least leaves you with some breathe. Hence, if you're sick of real life play WoW and if you at least have some soul left within your epidermis, play 1.6.
I got back into WoW, what got me back was the competitive pvp arena. How do the leagues work when other characters are on different servers? I assume they transfer there characters to an low populated area weeks before the event, I'm I right?
I've played both for quite a long time. WoW is a lot more boring, it's very repetitive, doing the same raids every week with the same annoying people ect..
dumb question honestly. the games have no similarities except for the fact that you kill in both games. fps and mmorpgs are not alike. maybe if you were asking us to compare WoW and Everquest or CS and Call of Duty then it would be easy to answer the question.
cs vs wow

Cs is better.

What's the point of this thread brah...
other wise i would say cs has been more a competitive game but wow is almos there
