World of Warcraft: Flow Gaming adds WoW Team

By: Shawne Via - Published May 08, 2007 at 10:59 PM EDT - Writer Archive
In a recent announcement, Flow picked up it's own WoW roster, continuing a recent trend among eSport organizations.
Flow Gaming has been in contact with a prominent 3v3 arena team, which is progressing very rapidly. Flow is a gaming organization which is new to the WoW playing field. The company also is currently has active rosters in other games such as Call of Duty: 2, CS 1.6, and Fifa 07. Team HUK came to Flow over a month ago and is now currently in second place in Blizzard’s 3v3 arena tournament. This skilled lineup has the potential to be the perfect choice for a World of Warcraft team that can represent the brand for this summer's World Series of Video Games.

Team HUK has a 9 player roster, who works closely together to get their job done, and the results speak for themselves. HUK is in the Rampage battlegroup on the Illidan server. The players have been alongside one another for about a year and one can see the effect in the way they gel together in competition. They recently won a free trip to Los Angeles to compete for some serious cash prizes against some of the top WoW teams in the world.

With a total of 412 games played the team has a 350-62 win-loss ratio. That comes out to an impressive 85% win percentage. This gives them a team rating of 2516 and a solid second place position in their BG. The number one ranked team, Purple Monkey Dishwasher, has a significantly lower win percentage at 72% and an arena rating of 2522 which is only a razor thin difference of six points.

Based on the statistics, HUK's starting 5 configuration includes a strong DPS line up including a Shaman, Warlock, and a Warrior and features two support classes in a Priest and a Paladin. The absence a Mage would normally show a lack of DPS, but HUK opted to use a Warlock to ensure high damage. With the Warlock being specced Felguard, this gives him a pet to dish out plenty of hard hitting damage. Not to mention that with the HUK Warlock's health at a very high level, this gives him a higher survival rate than a frost Mage would have with Ice Block. More health, means more time to inflict pain.

Adding a Shaman to the group also increases the amount of damage being done. Spec'ing 39 points in elemental and 22 points in Restoration gives him the talent Elemental Mastery and Nature's Swiftness. This combination gives the Shaman the ability to instantly cast a critical hitting spell. This works wonders for a strong burst damage. Their Warrior's spec is used for heavy hitting and added damage percentage. With Mortal Strike, Death's Wish, and Enrage, this Warrior can slam some opponents in a quick pace.
These classes specced for burst, and consistent damage which provides for an overall nice amount of DPS.

From the start, HUK was very satisfied with what Flow had to offer. Team leader Abdul "Bokas" Suleiman expressed his feelings towards the gaming organization:

“We were impressed with Flow's management, their philosophy of giving back to the gaming community, and became confident that we had found the right organization.”

After reading Flow's post on the WSVG forums and hearing some impressive things about the organization, HUK contacted Flow Gaming Owner, Nicholas "peekay" DePalmer. Depalmer had nothing but enthusiasm when looking toward the future of this endeavor, going on to praise the new union:

“It is my pleasure to expand our game genres to World of Warcraft and we look forward to joining perhaps one of the largest gaming communities in the world.”

HUK will gain the Flow Gaming tag and also will be attending the Louisville WSVG. Flow is greatly anticipating this new partnership and if they bring to the table what they have in the past, it will most likely be a long lasting association. However, while it certainly is promising, whether or not this deal will prove a benefit to Flow will have to be proven in Kentucky.

nice to see this happening more often, but i think a ice mage with the same amount of hp has far more survivability in 5v5 with two iceblocks (even with the upcoming patch) as opposed to a lock.
This late in the arena season both a mage or lock would be decked out in full gladiator gear so resilience isn't a problem. A lock does however bring healthstones that can crit for 4k which is always nice as well. A mage does bring a nice interrupt and sheep however. You decide :) (I personally would want both because they both bring something to the table)

Mage from tfm (one of the highest rated in the world)
