World of Warcraft: Pandemic vs TFO Lower Bracket Finals Recap

By: Aaron M. Wall - Published June 03, 2007 at 4:06 PM EDT - Writer Archive
TFO authoritatively defeats weakened Pandemic 3-0 in the Lower Bracket Finals of the Blizzard US Regional qualifier. While both teams qualify for Blizzcon, TFO moves on to play Flow Gaming for 1st place and a stronger seeding at the Global Finals in August.
Pandemic and TFO, teams both competing in this tournament with unfamiliar rosters, met up for a second time in the Lower Bracket Finals at Blizzard's US Regional competition. On the first day of competition, Pandemic was able to narrowly defeat TFO, also known as 'we lose cuz daorok sux', 3 to 2 in the second round of the Upper Bracket. That success would not nearly be repeated in the finals.

The first game took place on Blade's Edge, both teams immediately charging into the fray. TFO began their assist train on the most available target Noktyn, quickly flipping to Pandemic's Mage Ecilam moments after he made it onto the bridge. Ecilam had been playing a fire spec for the majority of this tournament, his team deciding that the additional burst damage (at the cost of survivability) would be vital for his unbalanced 4 DPS team to succeed.

The focus and concentrated damage of TFO's players was enough to deny Ecilam either impact or survivability as he was quickly dropped first. Nitrana and Reznap quickly followed, as Sck was unable to keep a bloodlusted TFO team from dropping his first.

The second game opened on Blade's Edge again with both teams again rushing straight into the fight on the bridge. TFO's gameplan, clearly successful in the first game, remained unchanged in the second. Ecilam was the first target followed by a brief switch to Reznap while Ecilam withdrew back from the fight. TFO recognized that Sck would be unable to maintain his team so long as their pressure remained constant and focused. When Ecilam returned to the fight, he was quickly finished off again and the rest of Pandemic followed suit.

The third game took place on Nagrand, a welcome change from Blade Edge's narrow bridge for Pandemic's heavy melee team. TFO began their pressure on the forward Noktyn again, dropping him dangerously low before a Divine Shielded Sck was able to save him. The attention then switched to fire mage Ecilam, quickly dropping him without the worry of an Ice Block to save him. The rest of the Pandemic team followed suit, save for a crowd pleasing runaround by Sck as the entire TFO team chased him alone from pillar to pillar.

Still, watching the entire TFO team chase one lone Pandemic player echoed the pace of the matches. TFO was able to heavily assist from character to character without the worry of Pandemic support saving the targets. Bloodlusted healers bought TFO the time they needed, and the offensive setup of Pandemic was forced to play defensively.

TFO moves on to play Flow Gaming in the US Regional Grand Finals to decide 1st and 2nd place for seeding at the Blizzcon Global Finals in August.
