World of Warcraft: Pandemic wins WSVG WoW 3v3 tournament

By: Aaron M. Wall - Published June 24, 2007 at 4:54 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The WSVG Louisville Competition wraps up today, showcasing 4 premier teams competing in the first major 3v3 American competition.
Day 4 of the WSVG Louisville WoW 3v3 Tournament showcased several premier teams vying for the final four placements at the event. These four teams will all be receiving impressive cash prizes as well as paid travel for the next WSVG event in Dallas.

Pandemic absolutely dominated the first three days of the tournament by fielding a variety of teams with an overall 27-1 match record for the first days of the competition. Right behind Pandemic has been Team Insurrection as well as the two MoB teams TurtleBeach and TurtleForce.

Insurrection plays a heavy caster Mage/Warlock/Priest team and hails from Battlegroup 9. MoB TurtleBeach is also known as Team TFO or 'we lose cuz daorok sux' and made their first appearance with a second place finish at the San Diego Blizzard US Regional 5v5 qualifier. MoB TurtleForce includes high profile Rogue player Zecks, a well known figure in the rogue community.

The day began with Pandemic pushing MoB TurtleBeach out of the Upper Bracket with a decisive 3-0 win. Insurrection then chewed through both MoB teams in short order, 3-0'ing both to earn their chance to face off against Pandemic for the grand finals of this event. Insurrection had to win two Best of Five sets in order to clinch the #1 standing, while Pandemic will only needed one.

Insurrection ran an unconventional Mage/Warlock/Druid setup against Pandemic's Mage/Rogue/Priest, a setup that was one of the more popular highly rated teams in the first season. The games were a fast paced back-and-forth of crowd control and spell interruption that Pandemic was able to control easily three games in a row to clinch out the title of WSVG Louisville WoW 3v3 Champions.

The WSVG WoW 3v3 series will continue in Dallas starting on July 5th!

I watched the coverage, and despite having played approximately 20 days worth of WoW, I had absolutely no idea what was going on. I find WoW to be the least spectator friendly competitive game I have ever seen. Some serious changes will need to happen in order to captivate spectators.
My comments are a reflection of only my personal opinion.

There needs to be an in-game tool similar to HLTV that allows people to spectate whoever they want, when they want. That is the only way these teams can get the proper attention they deserve. It is just too difficult and complex to watch a bird's-eye-view of the match and have a clue of whats going on.

I watched some of the WoW euro regionals and they really need a way for people to see how much damage people are taking because for about 2 mins of one match i watched it just looked like every one attackin each other but you had no idea who was winning?!?!?!?!

Blizzard will surely find a way to make it more spec friendly since they are really pushing for WoW as competitive e-sport, and with their new CGS deal also i wonder what they'll do, because i thought they were picking games soley on how spectator friendly they were.

Ive been playing 2 years and watched the regional 5v5s and couldnt tell what was going on lol.

They def need a better spectator mode than to let the announcers do it for you, that was terrible.
My fake plants died because I did not pretend to water them.
