MAJOR LEAGUE GAMING WORKS WITH HP AND BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT® TO LAUNCH MLG PC CIRCUIT

Break-out Pro Gaming League Kicks off Expansion into PC Arena with World of Warcraft® Competition played on HP Blackbird 002 systems in San Diego June 13-15

NEW YORK (May 12, 2008) – Major League Gaming (MLG), the professional videogame league, today announced the launch of the MLG PC Circuit played on HP Blackbird 002. The kick-off event will be held alongside MLG’s Pro Circuit event in San Diego June 13-15 and will feature Blizzard Entertainment®’s World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade® and over $20,000 in prizes.

“We’ve just come off our Meadowlands season opener, which attracted a record-setting 12,000 players and fans. Working with industry leaders HP and Blizzard Entertainment will allow us to reach more of America’s 40 million competitive gamers,” said Matthew Bromberg, CEO of Major League Gaming.

The 2008 MLG PC Pro Circuit competitions will be played entirely on HP Blackbird 002 gaming PC’s. Created with gamers in mind, the award-winning HP Blackbird 002 Gaming PC is highly configurable and features liquid cooling and innovative thermal chambers to keep critical components cool while running next-generation games or other demanding computing tasks.

“HP is bullish on PC gaming across the globe and we’re honored to help MLG as it launches their new North American circuit,” said Rahul Sood, chief technology officer, Voodoo Business Unit, HP. “The HP Blackbird 002 was designed specifically for this level of intense competition. We can’t wait to see to see MLG contestants pwning their opponents with it.”

The first MLG PC Circuit event features Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, the world’s most popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game, with more than 10 million players worldwide. The MLG PC Circuit will continue throughout the 2008 MLG season
with additional stops in Orlando and Dallas, and other PC titles may be added in the future.

The expansion of MLG into PC gaming competition leverages two of its competitive gaming sites, GotFrag.com, the leading PC-gaming coverage site, and MMO-Champion.com, a leading World of Warcraft competitive strategy site. San Diego tournament coverage will be broadcast live on GotFrag.com all weekend long, with more than 20 hours of live programming and expert commentary.

The live broadcast of the first 2008 MLG Pro Circuit competition in March generated more than 750,000 video streams, 130,000 hours of video and over 600,000 on-demand views on MLGPro.com.

Registration for the MLG PC Circuit San Diego event begins on May 15. For more information on the MLG PC Circuit, visit MLGPro.com, GotFrag.com or MMO-Champion.com.

Heres what I have a problem with #1 They are marketing $5000 computers to potential gamers as "what you need" to play these games.
#2 Why not 1.6 It has a bigger community than WoW when it comes to competitive gaming and we also care enough to WATCH the matches via demo, hltv,GFTV.
#3 Doesn't anyone else here think this was more of a corporate decision than a community based one? First of all WOW arena is dominated by one team which wins ALL major events its like the CGS with coL being the reigning team nobody else touches them on a regular basis (Mind you that the SF Optx can give them a run for their money on any given day)

1.6 is one of the reasons competitive PC gaming is still alive and yet everyone just keeps picking other games.

Truly mind blowing.

Pandemic's gotta be happy about this.
Corporate decision indeed, but let's hope this will help integrate more PC games into the mix (CSS, TF2, eh... maybe even Quake zero!).

#5 sad to say this community is changing... don't be so resistant to change... adapt or die.

#4 didnt you read the last article about this? By now I really wish ppl would start to understand that it is 2008 and not everyone wants to play 1.6! Let new games carry on and let new ppl be pro. If 1.6 were the game all the same old faces and teams would be there and no one else would have a shot.

#4 doesnt take into perspective, how large the wow community is. . .
#4 also doesnt take into perspective that they are being endorsed by Hewlett Packard which markets gamers as enthusiasts.. enthusiasts want the blood stained cutting edge technology.
#4 also doesnt have proof that 1.6 has a larger community than wow for competitive gaming.

My assumption is that #4 has to be a 16 year old, who has no idea what the market is like with technology these days.
