You will be surprised when we announce the numbers. The WoW numbers de_stroyed any CS event numbers we have ever broadcast, including CPL Winter 2006 when we did CS and Q3.
Like Scoots said, wait for the numbers... then wait a lil bit for "More and Better..."
You all remember that post don't you? Well, if not, read it again... it was a little over a year ago: http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/story/37931/ and Santa Chen's bag of goodness keeps on giving.
Do you think Fox cares "who" is watching Idol or the fact the show is an absolute runaway success for the network, which then funds them to do other things?
i think fox designed and catered every aspect of american idol the way they wanted... to say that american idol doesnt care what audience it attracts shows a lack of understanding of that aspect of marketing..... remember that part where commercials are different depending on the show and aimed towards certain groups of people with the same interests as the show theyre watching??? woops lets look at the community of gotfrag... its all CS 1.6/CSS....... you show WoW on the main page which is something youve never done before acting like its more important which confuses me and the community... MLG is taking over.
ive been watching for years and i like the CS coverage dont get me wrong but i would like to see you guys make a highlight movie / clip for WoW and compare it to 1.6 or source then ask yourselves where the spectating part is good about WoW, you might as well do audio to be completely honest, watching WoW, actually watching is equal to watching an RTS with 6 units involved, running around in circles in 3rd person with no actual skill or talent to be shown.
#10 - way to take the comment to the extreme, lol.
and scoots, you're goal with broadcasting wow is not to broadcast to the wow community... you're already sold on them and they're going to watch. you're goal is to broadcast to other communities, namely CS and CSS with it being on gotfrag. so your numbers within the "wow community" don't mean a whole lot.
Well the thing is that I have never seen the GFTV stream (tv.gotfrag.com) being put on the front page of GF - (GotFrag.com) - as well as the top of the different games' portal sites including the one GF is most famous for: CS 1.6 (until it was taken down later in the day due to complaints). However I am wondering if the numbers would be different if it was not placed on the front page? Plenty of people come to GotFrag daily, but for the most part I don't believe they come for WoW content/news and the placement on the front page could have made the numbers higher than they actually were...
Add: Again, I have nothing against WoW, but just thought pointing out that the stream was put on the front page could be of some significance. Because personally I feel if the GFTV stream for a CS 1.6 event was put up on the front page, the numbers would be just as high if not better :P
Now, you can either come along for the ride, whining kicking and screaming, or you can come along for the ride and enjoy it. Your choice. Either way, we're doing more and better.
The posting to the sub-sections of the site was actually an error on my part. I didn't specify to our dev teams to keep it JUST on the front page. So as singlecoil said on Saturday, we most definitely apologize to everyone for that. The way our CMS works, you can publish in one spot for all the pages or just one spot for each homepage (including the main homepage). It took us a little while to figure out we'd done it (thank you for complaining in such a mature constructive fashion....) but once we did, we fixed it as fast as we could.
This was a new functionality for us anyways, and one that we couldnt' get done in time for GRT2. But, although Scoots prob wants to save the surprise for you, it is something we are going to do for EVERY live stream we do from here on out. The next GRT will be on the front page. MLG's support (that bandwidth isn't cheap guys) enables us to do that.
EDIT: For clarity.
i came on gotfrag as i usually do and did my standard browsing. i wacthed probably about 10 seconds of wow. does this include me as a viewer of wow?
u talk about numbers who watched, of course its going to be larger then any other tournament due to the fact that every1 who went to gotfrag instantly watched it. most viewer hrs may be on tv.gotfrag.com but as far as number concerns it doesnt rly matter how long they watched it. thats my oppinion at least
#17 - you're right and you're wrong. But mostly wrong. How long we can keep you a captive audience because we do a good cast is just as important as how many people tune in. Most websites these days have a less than 3mins per visit duration. Gotfrag averages significantly higher than that. But the average viewing time for our stream was well over two hours. So any way you slice it, people came and they watched. Period. Even on the front page is was waaaaaay longer than 5mins per visit.
But again I am not completely CS biased (like some here may be :X) as I've seen some potential in WoW and am all for the advancement of WoW as an eSport as well as helping GotFrag grow :). Although I'm a fan of CS, I see nothing wrong with GF also having a WoW community filled with content/news, which is your future target I'm assuming? :)
Hell, I might even be feeling generous and throw in a can of Dr. Pepper
Can't wait till Orlando so I can throw away another day and watch WoW until i cant stand it anymore :)
I love it.
My choice would be WoW obv.
And for the record, they don't bring their own characters to our tournaments. As it clearly states in the rules, we provide premade characters with the same standard toolset of gear for everyone--Season 2 Arena gear.
Bottom line, I'm not sure what you're saying. But I am sure you aren't making sense.
I guess we'll just have to wait for the next CS event to compare the numbers, but seeing more GFTV in general is definitely a good thing :).
#25 - Answer :P
Edit: Quote fixed
if you think of esports as sports and you split each into their individual games -- esports we have 1.6, source, wow, cod, etc. sports we have nfl, nhl, mlb, mls, nba, etc. notice how many different games tehre are? just because wow succeeds over 1.6 or source, or source over 1.6, or 1.6 over the other two, doesn't mean that they all can't succeed equally. getting esports televised is a huge jump for ALL GAMES, regardless of whether they are an RTS, FPS, MMORPG.
@27 specifically, you are 110% spot on right.
@26, specifically, sounds good :D
Oh, and Vansili, to be fair here, and to give credit where credit is due there WAS another event going on that weekend, Dreamhack, And we covered it. Scorebots, scoreboard and the works. Demos and logs I understand are still filtering in, but we didn't have anyone onsite for Dreamhack summer this year so that's not a bad job considering we were RUNNING our own event at the same time.
see? I'm a cs fan and i was absorbed by WoW that i even forgot that there was ESWC quals and WGT DH going on
