World of Warcraft: What sp0h Knows

GotFrag had a chance to catch up with one of the reigning champions in competitive WoW while his team practiced for the MLG PC Circuit here in Orlando, Florida.

How do you feel the perception of your team, Evil Geniuses (formerly Frag Dominant), has changed since your recent PC Circuit win at San Diego? Did you feel they were overdue?

The only real basis from which people had to form an opinion of our team was the Tournament Realm and our performances in previous tournaments. With us being able to run multiple comps at a high level, it was definitely something that gave us a good chance at placing well.

Personally, it was nice to be able to win a tournament as it was the fifth that I have attended.

To what extent does face to face competition differ from playing in the comfort of ones own home? Before San Diego you were the only member of your team with a tournament history, Was playing together in a LAN environment a valuable experience, how so?

LAN play and the tournament scene is a pretty big change from the comfort of home. The noisy environment in addition to no mods - which many players use as a crutch - makes it a lot different. Playing together on LAN helped with team chemistry and the experience of playing a lot of the other top teams definitely helped too.

Being a bit of an underdog and coming up from the lower bracket to clinch the title at the last stop is a far cry from entering into this event as the reigning champs. Do you think this will effect your matches at all or the way other teams play against you?

Having won the last tournament (which also was the first of the year) definitely painted a huge target on our backs. We've set the bar this year and it will be up to the competition to maintain or exceed it. Although we may be the team to beat so far, there is still a chance that will change with all of the competition present.

You mentioned before that you were not able to run your "main" makeup of Rogue, Lock, Druid, have any plans to put it to better use? Any surprises in store?

Well, as much as we would like to run just RLD through the entire tournament, I feel it is fairly easy to counter compared to a setup like RMP. It really will depend on who we are playing. As far as other comps, we have more in store so maybe you will see us run something different.

Its been said that over-adaptation by teams in competition lately has lead to their own demise. Players are using classes they have less experience with rather than sticking with what they know the best. What are your thoughts on the debate concerning sticking with one strong main setup as opposed to utilizing many multiple setups.

Running multiple comps is definitely something that all teams should work towards. Like it or not, the meta-game is a part of competitive WoW. The problem is that some teams are running comps that they have little to no experience with. Teams need to be comfortable with their other setups to make it work.
