GotFrag speaks with a member of the Qatar royal family competing in the MLG Orlando WoW tournament.
(Orlando, Florida) - Video gaming continues to cross the boundaries of nationality, race and social class on a daily basis. This weekend's MLG Orlando event is no exception. As players gather for the event from across the country they are increasingly joined by those of the international variety.

GotFrag got a chance to speak with Khalid "Ooi" Althani, a member of the Qatar royal family, about his experience at the 2008 MLG Orlando WoW tournament.

Tell us a little about yourself and where you're from.

My name is Khalid Althani (char name Ooi), played with my brother Abdulaziz Althani(Char name Resiliance) we are from Qatar, this is our first time attending a wow tourny , and we got to meet alot of our wow friends, it was worth the trip coming here.

"...we got to meet alot of our wow friends, it was worth the trip coming here."
Whats your home server, what battlegroup do you participate in?

Was in Frostwolf Server Bloodlust battlegroup, recently transferred to Maelstrom Server Shadowburn battle group.

Justin Dalton is an American on your team, how did that come about? How did you meet him, how long have you played together? Does the distance ever create obstacles?

We just met each other on Frostwolf and we have played together for about one year.

What is your history in WoW? Any previous tournament appearances, any accomplishments online that you are known for?

We have been playing wow since the beta and this is our 1st tournament. We had the highest rating for shammy warlock in WoW. killthozad had the best pally in full pvp gear, the other 2 that were ahead of him had full sun well gear. martyr was on frostwolf known as resiliance and he hit gladiator in 3v3 rmp. Myself and killthozad hit gladiator in 2v2 he ran with a warrior named shaka, I ran with with lck.

What sort of community does WoW have in Qatar? Do many people play? Are there other PC games that have a large following, and do you yourself participate in any others?

The main people that play wow in Qatar are our cousins, there are a few internet cafes with wow, most popular games in Qatar are wow, battlefield, counterstrike, and halo.

How does the competitive LAN scene in the United States compare to that of your own country?

We don't have anything like this in Qatar.

What do you feel is your strongest setup in 3v3? Do you like to switch it up and counter your opponent, or do you lean more towards sticking with a single setup.

I prefer pally shammy warrior and and I like to stick with that set up WINDFURY! sword proc BLEH dead.

According to the world monetary fund, Qatar has the highest GDP per capita (average wealth per citizen) in the world.

Correct, he is A prince of Qatar. He is a natural born son of the King but not necessarily the next in line to rule.

#13

That's largely just a matter of how much currency they print. The more 'dinars' they put in circulation, the less each one is worth compared to other forms of currency.
My comments are a reflection of only my personal opinion.

Thats awesome! For all you guys that haven't even left you country to explore the world, let alone your state; Qatar is a great little desert nation that is thriving at the moment. Forget the currency and economic situation for a bit (because they are doing better than us in some areas). They are a beautiful people that were extremely welcoming to us when we were there. Khalid, good luck at the tournament!

A 'dessert' nation? No wonder Khalid is so fat.
