World of Warcraft: Teen arrested for suicide threat

Ohio teen in jail after threat of suicide over WoW.

A local teenager of Middletown, Ohio found himself in handcuffs and in a squad car on Monday, Dec. 29.

The 17-year old informed a Blizzard representative in-game that "he was suicidal and that the game is the only thing he has to live for," forcing the representative to place a call to 911.

After police and paramedics arrived at his home, he claimed that he only did it "to try to get what he wanted for the game."

He was later released to his father, and will appear in court on Tuesday, January 6th.

umm...just curious but how is arresting him a reasonable response to a suicide threat? arresting him does what, exactly (aside from him not being able to kill himself)? i'd think it'd just make him want to kill himself more. why not just have a police officer and/or paramedic go to the guy's house and approach the parents and tell them what's up and then suggest certain routes of therapy to the parents for the kid? maybe i'm wrong, but...i just dont see how arresting him is beneficial.

I've known that suicide was against US law for a while, but what's the point of making suicide threats illegal? All that it will do is put mentaly unstable people into difficult positions with the law, which can easily put them into stressful situations that they can't handle without proper treatment.

If anything the guy should have talked to him and tried to get him to see a therapist or psychatrist, rather than calling police.

Im a FDNY Paramedic and i can tell u its not illegal to say your going to commit suicide. duh. there is more to this if he was arrested.. which i doubt he was... he was prolly taken into custody being a minor until he could be released to his parents. U cant be charged if he didnt call 911. OHIO IS A JOKE

It's dumb that you can arrest someone for saying they want to kill themselves.

How can you charge someone with a crime for threatening themselves? So dumb. Assisted suicide should be legal.
