World of Warcraft: BlizzCon 2009 WoW Team Preview

By: Ryan - Published August 21, 2009 at 1:45 AM EDT - Writer Archive
We take a quick look at the eight teams competing in Blizzard's Arena Finals at BlizzCon.

GotFrag.com - With BlizzCon '09 only days away the anticipation builds as teams prepare to square off against each other at BlizzCon's Global 3v3 Tournament. If you weren't fortunate enough to get your hands on a ticket, Direct TV will be hosting a Pay-Per-View event purchasable online.

Teams from all over the world will set forth to Anaheim, California to lock horns with their competitors as they fight their way to $25,000 cash. There is no doubt in my mind that the teams competing have been preparing for months, and will bring none other than their best. Here is a closer look at the teams competing.

SK Gaming

United States Joseph Morrone (Enforcer) - Rogue
United States Mark Rendon (Pookz) - Mage
United States Ryan Masterson (Realz) - Priest

This team needs no introduction. SK Gaming will no doubt be the fan favorite for this event, especially after just taking first place at MLG in Columbus. Expect to see them playing their notorious RMP which has never steered them wrong in the past. Their RMP is tough to counter with their constant pressure and control over the fight. Also, their ability to switch almost instantly to any target will keep any opponent shaking in his greaves. Utility, coordination and teamwork make this RMP one of the best I've yet to see.

TSG

United States David Kovacs (Valrath) - Death Knight
United States Bennet Lynch (Veex) - Warrior
United States Fabian Siffredi (Zilea) - Paladin

After suffering a huge loss in the finals against SK Gaming at the North American Regionals this year, TSG will be laying it all out on the table at BlizzCon. Playing thier melee cleave setup Warrior/Death Knight/Paladin they're going to have to watch out for the same problem they've had at the Regionals, the RMP. The two melee will not be able to offer much help to their Paladin when sitting in a Frost Nova for half the fight. However, TSG will defintely have something up their sleeve if they butt heads again with SK in round three of the tournament.

X6tence

Spain Nestor Garcia Trabazo (Souler) - Paladin
Spain Javier Dobon (Siler) - Hunter
Spain Victor Manuel Sanchez Lopez (Falcon) - Death Knight

X6 will be one of two teams playing the Hunter/Death Knight/Paladin setup. This team has been said to counter the power house of the RMP and X6tence's HDKP is no different. They've proven themselves able to take it down after trumping SK Gaming (EU) in the European Regionals. Their unceasing damage output to their target is often more than any healer to endure. I wouldn't be suprised if I were to see a melee cleave setup come from X6tence during the later rounds. Expect to hear a lot about these guys this weekend at BlizzCon.

WOAH

Germany Carlos Rodriguez Santiago (Ocelote) - Warrior
Spain Patrick Costales (Inflame) - Warlock
Spain Hugo Gonzalez (Kae) - Druid

Coming away with first seat this year at the European Regionals, WOAH's WLD will not be ignored. Go with what you know, its as simple as that. These seasoned players have been playing this composition since the Titans created Azeroth. With only a pet dispel at their disposal, their first match against an RMP will unmistakably be one of the hardest. Additionally, with the immense buff to Mage Armor, Inflame will have his hands more than full trying to keep this fight under his thumb. Team WOAH will not disappoint in putting on an outstanding show.

SHIPIT

South Korea Soonjae Cha (Coilmaster) - Death Knight
South Korea Jaemin Lee (Tsukiyomi) - Hunter
South Korea Janghwan Bae (Kamiu) - Paladin

SHIPIT is the second team playing the HDKP, and from what I've heard they are the founding fathers of this composition. The HDKP became an instant sensation on live realms and its not hard to notice why. Without a doubt, this team has the potential to go all the way at BlizzCon after winning the Korean Regionals.

Button Bashers

South Korea Naehyun Kang (Orangemarmalade) - Mage
South Korea Seoungouk Oh (Numberone) - Priest
South Korea Woojin Kim (Hannival) - Rogue

The team of Button Bashers really knows how to draw a crowd. Last years Global Finals was outstanding and such a pleasure to watch. Orangemarmalade made a real name for himself when winning the 1v2 against SK Gaming to keep his team alive. But will he live up to the expectations of greatness the crowd has bestowed upon him?

DKP

Taiwan Ming Lee (Kita) - Priest
Taiwan Po-Jui Lee (Ray) - Death Knight
Taiwan Yu-liang Huseh (Kh) - Rogue

I do not have too much information on the team of DKP, but that might prove to be one of their advantages in this tournament. Not too many teams play the setup of Rogue/Death Knight/Priest and their mysteriousness intrigues me. Peeling a rogue and a death knight off any one of your teammates would be arduous and almost near impossible task. I'd like to see how this one would pan out.

All Pass

Taiwan Yen-Fu Chen (Ba) - Priest
Taiwan Ming-Wei Ho (Seven) - Mage
Taiwan Te-Chen Liu (Tank) - Rogue

I do not have much information on Taiwan's All Pass team. I know they will be playing RMP and like all RMPs, if played to its fullest potential its almost near impossible to match.
