World of Warcraft: Get Yiska'd: Day 1 recap/Day 2 preview

A quick review of what happened yesterday and why you should be glued to your monitor today.

Button Bashers vs Evil Geniuses

In the first match of the day, the Korean team of Button Bashers put themselves back on the map of "We-are-back-in-business-baby-island" as their new Rogue "Hiren" played an amazing first match of the tournament.

The new roster of Evil Geniuses built around the LAN veteran Azael did well enough to still grab two games from BB which was mainly due to the fact that the Korean's weren't properly shutting down Azael and he was able to pick apart their game, killing the momentum. One thing that surprised every curious armory stalker was that Azael played with below 700 resilience and a very questionable spec including imp. Felhunter. Does he know something we don't?

It seemed to work as his PvE-gear build was the tool of success in the two games they won even though one might argue that Button Bashers could have capitalized more on his gear choice by training him. Tenderloin played extremely well in his first offline match ever, however, it wasn't quite enough as Button Bashers took home a close best of five.

SK.EU vs Complexity

For me personally the most exciting although not really the closest match of the evening was the series of SK.EU vs Complexity. First game on Blades Edge, complexity's Sodah tried to get in line of sight of Enigmz but both Inflame and Another do a great job of peeling for their French friend and he manages to survive with relative ease.

Two maps of Ring of Valor, the most likely best map for an RMP against Shadow cleave should follow. Enigmz is able to survive the first game as complexity's Reckful took too long to get on his target, therefore enabling SK.EU to build up their momentum. The Druid of SK.EU fell over in the second game, however, and while it looked like Complexity was about to pull off their first game, Inflame's magic happened. As Enigmz died, dots were already spread among Sodah and Reckful and the Priest of Complexity is forced to at least try to channel a Penance, a mistake that cost them the game as Inflame managed to land a Spell lock on him and Sodah just died without being able to make up for his mistake.

Only seconds later Reckful died from the full stack of dots and SK.EU landed a devastating blow to Complexity's confidence. Kalimist, the Rogue of the home watching team of Ensidia, would later comment that you just can't waste your Cloak of Shadows against SK.EU and that this scenario of SK.EU pulling off a 2vs3 often happened against them during their practice. If SK.EU was a PvE boss fight, they would call the time after Enigmz dies "Inflame Phase 2" and it would be far from over.

To top it off, SK.EU switched to their second line up of Mage/Warlock/Druid in the fifth game and makes all WoW related IRC channels around the world go bonkers.

SK.US vs Complexity BHMS

The second match of Shadow Cleave vs RMP and SK-gaming against Complexity, while not as high caliber as the first battle of these giants, was definitely a much closer game than the first match of these famous e-sports entities.

The B in BHMS, Brogo, struggled quite a bit in the first game as his positioning was probably the biggest difference between his and Enigmz' performance. He eventually corrected in later games and played an amazing series overall. The self proclaimed team America seemed to wear their lucky pants as the second map turned out to be RoV, but they still lost due to an Unstable Affliction dispel of Realz. In game three SK.US managed to apply too much pressure on Brogo and with the series being at a 2-1, BHMS had to react. In the last two games, BHMS played really well and managed to apply so much pressure that people on my vent would later call "brain overloading Realz" as too much information was flying around and Realz ended up doing nothing for two globals cooldowns just before Enforcer died. One might argue that this is the rust of a player that is said to mainly play his Rogue on live servers before the tournament.

x6 vs Fnatic

While I could summarize every game for this series there is really not more to say about the series other than "lol Beast Cleave". The team of x6 just trained down Yog every game who can hardly apply any pressure as he has to fake against a plethora of interrupts and push backs and the game that fnatic managed to pull off felt like stars aligned. Flexx dies to a crit line in a matter of globals. During the whole series Fnatic looked kind of lost and even though people said that in preparation for the tournament the line up of RLS was doing really well against Beast Cleave, there is very little left of that statement. It remains to be seen if EG is able to pull off the felt-impossible challenge of beating Check Six.

What to look out for today

If you are like my friends who allow themselves to be dominated by their better half and you're not allowed to properly nerd it up with Coke, Chips and HD stream like I do, here are the games which you just can not miss. If your girl friend doesn't believe you, tell her I said it and send her to #arenacast and I'm sure the people will take good care of her. Anywho:

Coming right up is the match of Button Bashers against Complexity, the battle of the so called best RMPs of their continent. While there is definitely some truth to the statement that RMP mirros can be about RNG, I can almost promise you that it won't decide the series. Sure some people are annoyed by the high amount of RMP matches at the tournament, but it just wouldn't be the same without them. RMP is an art, look it up on google or something.

As I write this, I realize how ridiculous it sounds to pick games you should watch as pretty much every game is the absolute bomb. Don't you wish to be single, maybe just for today? Tell her there is this really sweet guy playing named "Reckful". If that doesn't please her, I honestly don't know what will. My condolences go out to all people who aren't able to absorb each and every game today. I'm off to get some more money for pizza delivery. Yiska light speed!
